Chamorro Fruit Dove
By Rosemarie Forsythe
Flashe and acrylic on canvas, 16”x20”
My father remembers seeing many of these birds on the island of Guam in his youth. Sadly, the bird is now extinct on Guam. I painted this work after visiting the recent Bonnard exhibit at the Phillips Collection. All Bonnard's vibrant, tropical colors inspired me, and I couldn't wait to get home to splash these colors I rarely use on the canvas to get the same uplifting feeling I had while viewing Bonnard's work.
